Monocle’s springy May issue includes the launch of our first ever Design Awards. Expect 50 movers and shakers, from architects rethinking the built environment to fresh branding, smart ateliers and products to prize. Elsewhere in the issue we pass our verdict on president Biden’s first 100 days in office, sit down with the Nato secretary-general to discuss the merits of fighting your corner and profile the soaring fortunes of the pet industry. As always, you’ll also discover stylish finds for your wardrobe alongside a world of recipes, recommendations and ideas to spark your imagination: from weekend plans to starting a new venture. Plus: making a scene in Studio Babelsberg, Germany’s answer to Hollywood.

Shipping cost included for select geographies.

These handsome gewgaws are made by a Hong Kong workshop that has been honing its craft since the 1980s. Based in the industrial district of San Po Kong on Kowloon, it is one of the last remaining brass factories in the city. The workshop has created an exclusive brass range for MONOCLE, which includes a trio of keyrings (featuring a flower, triangle or square cut-out) and a bottle opener. All have a pleasant heft and will develop a lovely patina over time.

The South Korean capital is energetic and sprawling; it’s a 24-hour city that’s home to some 10 million people and plenty of brightly lit billboards, skyscrapers and shops.

This issue is an ode to the summer road trip; we visit the French cowboys of the Camargue (and meet the artisans crafting their distinctive apparel) and hit the road with Slovakian fashion designer Kristína Šipulová.

Decidedly global in its outlook, Singapore embraces all things hi-tech and modern while having a foot firmly rooted in tradition, as you’ll discover in our fully illustrated, 148-page hardback guide.

The Monocle Guide to Cosy Homes is a survey of everything you need to build the residence you want. From architects to furniture-makers, from design-store owners to gardeners, we will introduce you to interesting people with ideas that are built to last.

Cuddle up for the holidays with Monochan. This plush toy is made in Japan and is a hoot of a gift for children (and children at heart).
